Ralph Lauren to Celebrate Golden Anniversary During NYFW

It’s no secret that 2018 marks Ralph Lauren’s 50th year in business. It’s a reason to celebrate. Lest anyone thought the big 5-0 anniversary shebang was last September, when Lauren hosted a chauffeured outing to Bedford, N.Y., to view his fall 2018 fashion show among his world-class vintage car collection, they were wrong. The official celebration will be the evening of Sept. 7, during New York Fashion Week. The venue is yet to be determined, as are most details aside from the fact that the event will combine Lauren’s fashion show and a party. It will be big, and it will no doubt bring a jolt of much-needed glamour and optimism to New York Fashion Week.
Lauren has set his own bar pretty high, between last September’s show at his garage and the festivities staged for his 40th anniversary, which included a runway show and black-tie candlelit garden party for 400 in the Central Park Conservatory.
The plaudits for Lauren’s major milestone have already begun. Earlier this month at the CFDA Awards, he was the recipient of the first CFDA Members Salute by fellow American designers, including Thom Browne, Michael Kors, Tommy Hilfiger, Jason Wu and Donna Karan, commemorating his incredible career. Liberty London, Florence Welch Jazz Up Sleepwear

DREAMSCAPE: Liberty London has collaborated with the singer and songwriter Florence Welch on a limited-edition sleepwear capsule that includes six Liberty archive prints. It is set to launch on June 20.
“As a Liberty print obsessive, I was honored that Liberty allowed me to trawl through their archives to create this collection,” said Welch. The singer hand-picked a selection of floral prints: The oldest dates back to the 1820s and the most recent one has been drawn from Liberty’s 1991 autumn silk collection.
Designs range from whimsical floral prints to ornamental florals and decorative botanicals — these were reinterpreted to adorn the sleepwear selection. The collection is comprised of matching pajama sets, long kimono robes and camisole and panty sets. Prices start at 55 pounds for an eye mask and the sleepwear pieces start at 225 pounds for a silk chemise.
Welch said sleepwear is as vital to her as both a day and night wardrobe. “I do a lot of writing in the morning, still in my pajamas with lots of very strong coffee,” she said, noting that the kimono is a favorite concert go-to piece of hers.

Next for Bottega? Philo, Green Seen as Contenders

MILAN — Tomas Maier is leaving Bottega Veneta, a brand that he has helped shape and elevate for 17 years, and market sources point to Craig Green and Phoebe Philo among the contenders to succeed him.
Parent company Kering did not name a successor on Wednesday, but sources reason that the brand would benefit from a high-profile designer, as the company plots a turnaround after losing steam in recent years.
Green, who will stage his first show as guest men’s wear designer at Pitti Uomo on Thursday night, is a top candidate for the job, according to industry sources. A London’s men’s wear star with a business brain, the award-winning Green has collaborated in past seasons with Moncler and is taking part in the Moncler Genius project.
Last year, pieces from his fall 2015 collection appeared in Ridley Scott’s “Alien: Covenant.” Actors wore Green’s hand-twisted jersey, long johns, skintight clothing and quilted vests in the movie.
The designer has been on Kering’s radar for a while: A year ago he was a candidate for the creative director’s role at Brioni, which Nina-Maria Nitsche eventually filled.

Sustainable Fashion: Obakki Wins Canadian Award

TORONTO — On any given day Obakki founder Treana Peake juggles innumerable hats, including that of designer, mother, philanthropist and wife of Nickelback guitarist Ryan Peake.
Yet after launching her high-end sustainable label in 2005, Peake ha also added altruistic storyteller to that list, weaving the tales of people in need in developing countries into everything she creates from her Vancouver-based studio.
“We’ve always been a philanthropy-first brand that tries to give fashion purpose. But we are also a luxury label,” said Peake, the winner of 2018’s Design Forward prize, now the only sustainable fashion award of its kind in Canada.
Peake used that momentum to launch the Obakki Foundation in 2009. Since then the registered nonprofit has helped bring medical care, clean water, sustainable agriculture and education to Africa, in particular Cameroon, South Sudan and Uganda — all through funding from Obakki’s net profits and donations.
Obakki’s African connection, in fact, colors the entire label, including the scarves it introduces annually, like 2018’s Bidi Bidi scarf, which was created by the women Peake met while touring the world’s largest refugee camp in Uganda.

Polo Ralph Lauren to Showcase U.S. Open Line at Tournament

When the first golfers step to the T-shirt on Thursday at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, N.Y., for this year’s U.S. Open, they’ll be surrounded by officials and volunteers sporting specially designed outfits from Polo Ralph Lauren.
For the eighth time, the company is the Official Outfitter of the USGA and U.S. Open Championship and has created uniforms for the volunteers and officials as well as USGA executives.
In addition, the brand has also designed a line of official U.S. Open commemorative merchandise for fans that will be sold on site as well as at the Ralph Lauren and USGA web sites.
And for those who have had too much fun chasing Tiger Woods around the course, the brand has partnered with Free Ride to offer complimentary rides in buggies wrapped in Polo Ralph Lauren branding to and from the Ralph Lauren Southampton store through June 17.
But for those choosing to stay at the course for the duration, the brand is working with a digital sketch artist who will create artwork of attendees wearing golf attire being sold in the merchandise tent. It will include the Saturday look of Polo Ralph Lauren-sponsored golfer, the number-one ranked Justin Thomas, or other looks.
